PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reported 105 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday and there were four new deaths. The 105 cases are from 1,781 tests that were performed over the past 24 hours.
The new deaths included one each in Oglala Lakota and Minnehaha and two in Pennington County.
Oglala Lakota now has reported 2 COVID-19 related deaths. Pennington County has now recorded 31.
Around the Black Hills area, Pennington County had 5 new cases today, sending their cumulative total to 863 with 118 active cases. The active number of cases is down 2 today in Pennington.
Lawrence County also reported 5 new cases today. Lawrence now has 40 total cases with 14 of them remaining active.
Other new cases around the Black Hills region today include 3 in Custer County and 2 in Butte County. Custer has a total of 26 with 9 active cases. Butte County has 6 active cases.
Meade County reported no new cases today and the active caseload was down one to 18.
The statewide number of active cases is up 36 today to 987.
There are 44 people currently hospitalized, up one from Wednesday.
The Department of Health also updated the numbers from the cluster of cases connected to Camp Judson. Health Secretary Kim Malsom-Rysdon says of the 94 reported cases among South Dakota residents, 70 have now recovered. No hospitalizations among them has been reported.
