PIERRE, S.D. – In its Monday update, the South Dakota Department of Health reported the number of positive cases of COVID-19 had broken 100 with 101.
That is up 11 from Sunday’s 90.
In Western South Dakota, Lawrence County recorded two additional positive tests, raising its number to 5. Pennington County is also at 5 with one additional case.
Butte County also recorded their first positive test and Meade County remained at one.
The state’s most populous county, Minnehaha, recorded three additional cases and is now at 28.
State Epidemiologist Joshua Clayton says the new cases in Pennington County over the weekend do not appear tied to a healthcare provider who tested positive and reportedly had contact with over 100 patients at Monument Health’s Cancer Center. On that note, Clayton says they won’t be tested unless they show symptoms. dDr. Calyton says all those involved are being followed up appropriately
As for testing, Health Secretary Kim Malsom-Rysdon says commercial lab capacity has come online and they anticipate this will help greatly in keeping up with testing. So far, there have been 3,478 negative tests.
As of Monday, 34 people had recovered from the virus, leaving 66 active cases and still just the one death.
Fifty-two of the positive cases have been in males with 49 female.
The 50-59 age group has the most cases with 22, followed by the 20-29 age group with 19 and the 40-49 age group with 18.
