PIERRE, S.D. – There were 83 new positive tests for COVID-19 according to the State Department of Health Thursday.
Pennington County recorded an additional 14 new cases today, giving them 143 active and 186 cumulative.
The number of hospitalizations was up four from yesterday to 105. Monument Health in Rapid City reports 30 people hospitalized as of Wednesday.
The health care provider says with the increase in cases over the past week in Pennington County, it’s possible they will see their peak earlier than the projected late-June prediction.
Other case numbers today include 27 in Beadle, 17 in Minnehaha, 5 in Brown, 3 in Jerauld, 2 each in Charles Mix and Davison Counties, and one each in Aurora, Buffalo, Codington, Hand, Jackson, Lake, Lincoln, Lyman, Moody, Oglala Lakota Sanborn, Todd and Union. With the new case in Oglala Lakota, the county now has 17 active cases.
In Beadle County, the hard hit Jack Link’s Food plant now has 66 total cases. Health Secretary Kim Malsom-Rysdon says they remain in contact with the plant. She says they are working towards the ability to do some mass testing for employees and their close contacts by this weekend.
The number of active cases statewide stayed relatively stable today – up four to 1,041 from yesterday.
There were 79 new recoveries from COVID-19 Thursday for a statewide total now of 3,698. The state’s death toll remained at 54 after four deaths were reported Wednesday.
There have been 34,233 total negative tests in the state, up 937 from the previous day. Pennington County has a total of 2,897 negative tests, Meade County has 607, Lawrence County has 490 and Butte County has 179.
