PIERRE, S.D. – In the latest COVID-19 report from the Department of Health, the number of cases were up today over yesterday, but the number of active cases dropped for the fourth-straight day.
The number of active cases fell nine from Wednesday’s 868.
There were 76 new positive tests in South Dakota overnight, and four additional deaths were also reported. That is highest amount of deaths reported in a 24 hour period so far in South Dakota. The four deaths were out of Minnehaha County and were two males and two females. Minnehaha now has 12 of the 17 COVID-19 related deaths.
There were no new cases reported in the Black Hills area. Cases were reported in Minnehaha County, who had the most at 53, 9 in Lincoln, 7 in Brown, 2 in Turner and one each in Brookings, Hughes, Stanley and Union counties.
Current hospitalizations are at 76, up seven from Wednesday’s 69. Total hospitalizations are at 173, up from Wednesday’s 165.
There have been 14,579 negative tests with 772 in Pennington County, 136 in Meade County and 154 in Lawrence County.
