STURGIS, S.D. – South Dakota reached a record high number of active COVID-19 cases Saturday as 464 new cases were reported.
The state’s active caseload reached 4,112, up 125 from Friday.
It was another deadly 24-hour update as well, with 11 new deaths reported. Three of the deaths were in West River South Dakota – Ziebach, Oglala Lakota and Gregory counties. There were 2 deaths each in Minnehaha and Jerauld counties.
Around West River South Dakota, there were 119 new COVID-19 cases, with Pennington County reporting the most with 52.
Pennington County now has a cumulative total of 2,568 with 446 active cases. Active cases are up 8 in Pennington Saturday.
Meade County added 11 new cases today, sending the cumulative total to 608 with 116 active cases. Active cases are down 3 today in Meade.
In Lawrence County, 8 new cases were reported, sending the total to 457 with 96 active. Active cases are down 2 in Lawrence today.
Other new cases around West River today included 11 in Todd, 8 in Oglala Lakota, 7 in Tripp, 4 in Lyman, 3 each in Fall River and Stanley, 2 each in Dewey, Ziebach, Bennett and Mellette and one each in Corson, Haakon, Gregory and Jones counties.
There was some good news according to health officials on the hospitalization front as the number of people hospital due to COVID-19 dropped 5 today to 215.
There were 1,758 new persons tested reported on Saturday.
