PIERRE, S.D. – Health officials reported 279 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, a third straight day of increased numbers. Of the 279 new cases, 100 of them are considered probable.
There were also 14 new deaths reported today, the first time deaths have reached double-digits in a week. Of the new deaths, 3 of them were out of Pennington County, where the death toll since the pandemic began is now 181. Statewide, the death toll rose to 1,829.
Active cases were up today from 2,151 Wednesday to 2,209 today. The number of people hospitalized dropped 5 to 104.
Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported 27 new cases, of which, 6 are probable.
Lawrence County had 3 total cases with one of them probable. Meade County added 7 new cases.
Butte and Custer County each reported 2 confirmed cases and Fall River County added 2 probable cases.
Oglala Lakota County had one new, confirmed case.
