State reports 169 new cases Wednesday, but recoveries outpace new cases

STURGIS, S.D. – The Department of Health reported 169 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, up from 105 yesterday.

However, recoveries outpaced new cases and all Black Hills area counties saw decreases in the number of active cases.

Pennington County reported an additional 24 new cases, however active cases tumbled 35 Wednesday to 335. The cumulative total in Pennington reached 1,666 today.

Meade County reported 2 new cases, but saw their active number of cases drop 20 to 78. Meade County’s total is 348.

Lawrence County added 3 new cases, sending their cumulative total to 267, but active cases decreased 13 to 67.

Other new cases around the Black Hills region included 3 in Butte County, 2 in Fall River County, and one in Custer County.

The statewide active number of cases is down 245 Wednesday to 2,434.

After a decrease in the number of hospitalizations Tuesday, the hospitalization number jumped 8 Wednesday to 76.

No new deaths were reported today, leaving the state’s death toll at 173.
