State reports 28 new COVID-19 cases Sunday

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reported its lowest 24-hour total for new cases of COVID-19 in weeks Sunday as 28 new positive tests were documented.

The additional 28 cases raised the state’s cumulative total to 3,987. However, more recoveries today sent the state’s active case load down to 1,219.

Pennington County reported an additional 3 positive tests, sending their cumulative total to 52 with 37 active cases. The additional three cases follows Saturday’s announcement by the Department of Health that a Rapid Ride transit driver had tested positive as did a worker at the Super 8 Motel in Rapid City. That motel on Tower Road is currently closed for cleaning and for workers who may have been in contact with the individual to self quarantine.

Oglala Lakota County also reported a new case, bringing their cumulative total to 10 with 9 active cases.

There are currently 77 people hospitalized due to COVID-19 – up two from yesterday.

The state’s death toll also remained at 44 Sunday.
