STURGIS, S.D. – The State Department of Health reported 386 new cases of COVID-19 in their Friday report with 94 of them across West River.
The new cases sent the active caseload in the state up 155 to 3,987. There was also an increase in the number of people hospitalized Friday as the total rose to 220 from Thursday’s 214.
One new death was also reported, raising the state’s death toll to 237.
Across the Black Hills area, there were 74 new cases. Pennington County saw the most with 37 new COVID-19 positive tests. Pennington County’s cumulative total rose to 2,516 with 438 remaining active. Active cases are up 20 today in Pennington.
Meade County added 13 new cases Friday, sending the cumulative total to 597 with 119 active. The active cases are up 8 today in Meade.
In Lawrence County, 7 new cases were reported sending the total to 449 with 101 active cases. Active cases in Lawrence County are up 3 today.
Elsewhere around the Black Hills area, Butte County reported 2 new cases, Custer and Fall River county each added 1 and Oglala Lakota County added 13 new cases. Oglala Lakota County saw their cumulative total rise to 325 with 104 remaining active.
Other new cases across West River include 4 in Gregory, 3 each in Lyman and Bennett, 2 each in Dewey, Tripp, Mellette and Todd and one each in Stanley and Haakon counties.
There were 1,258 people tested for the latest 24 hour reporting period.
