PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota has recorded its deadliest COVID-19 report this year as 19 new deaths were reported by the Department of Health Friday.
The surge in deaths sent the state’s death toll to 2,601. Among the new deaths, there were 3 reported out of Pennington County and one out of Meade County.
Active cases hit another new high at 35,196, but the number of people hospitalized because of the virus dropped a bit to 397.
There were 2,183 new cases reported with 554 of those listed as probable.
Across the Black Hills area; Pennington County saw 427 new cases with 57 of those listed as probable.
Lawrence County reported 63 new cases and Meade County added 78.
Elsewhere, Oglala Lakota County had 94, Butte County listed 27, Fall River County showed 21, Custer County added 16 and Harding County reported 2 new cases.
