PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health in its daily COVID-19 report showed a big jump of cases as the state hit 90 positive tests.
That is up 22 from Saturday’s 68.
Beadle County saw four additional cases, raising their number to 20. Minnehaha County also reported an additonal four cases, rising their number to 25.
In Western South Dakota, Lawrence County had an additonal positive test, raising them to 3 and Pennington County also reported an additional case, giving them four.
The DOH also reported Fall River County had their first positive test. Meade County, whose only reported case so far was the Monument Health caregiver, had no new positive tests in the Sunday report.
Of the 90 cases, 26 people have fully recovered from the virus. There have been 3,127 negative tests. The virus is split evenly among females and males — each with 45.
The department says 20 of the cases have been in the 50-59 year age group. Eighteen cases have been reported in the 40-49 year age group and there are 16 cases in the 60-69 and 20-29 year age group.
The D.O.H. continues to encourage residents to wash their hands frequently and keep their social distancing practices going.
Governor Kristi Noem says South Dakota is going a good job so far, but it needs to get continue and it needs to get better.
Many communities across the state have either encouarged or passed ordinances urging businesses to not have on-site gathering or on-site consumption.
Many public gathering places like theaters, pools and the like have also closed.
