RAPID CITY, S.D. – All teams arrived in Rapid City Tuesday for the 2023 State Wrestling Tournament that begins Thursday at the Monument.
Teams arrived early due to the snow storm hitting the state Wednesday.
The individual portion of the state tournament kicks off on Thursday at 9 a.m.
This year’s event will feature nearly 600 wrestlers and more than 80 teams.
The championship matches will be held on Friday at 6 p.m.
Brandon Valley is looking to win its third straight Class ‘A’ state title.
A year ago, Brandon Valley won the Class ‘A’ crown with 252 points followed by Rapid City Stevens with 160.
Sturgis, who finished sixth last year, won the Region 4A title last week and qualified all 14 wrestlers to the state tournament.
Meanwhile, Canton is attempting to win its sixth Class ‘B’ state title in a row.
Also, the Pierre Governors are looking to repeat this year after winning the first ever girls state wrestling title last season.
The state wrestling tournament will wrap up on Saturday with the team dual championships.
