Steve Dexheimer, 67, Spearfish, SD passed away on October 4, 2024 at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital.
Steve was born August 6, 1957 in Belle Fourche, SD to Wally and Wanda(Vance) Dexheimer. The family moved to Southern California in the 1960s for Steve’s elementary years. He attended high school in Boulder, Colorado before coming back to Spearfish where he graduated.
Wildland firefighter, property manager, ski trail groomer, and ski instructor were among the many hats he wore to pay the bills. But above all things, Steve loved to fly fish. He loved to talk about it, read about it, but most of all he loved to fish.
Maybe you recognize him from the walking path in town. Maybe your dog rushed to greet him. He was definitely a dog person. Or maybe he offered to reach something on the top shelf at the grocery store for you. He was kind like that.
Those lucky enough to know him include his sisters: Dawn and Nancy and their families, his niece Shannon Dexheimer and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Doug Dexheimer, his parents and grandparents.
Graveside services will be Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 10 am at Rosehill Cemetery in Spearfish. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter in his honor.
