STURGIS, S.D. — The Rapid City Stevens Raider boys and girls basketball teams blew out the Sturgis Scoopers in a doubleheader at West Gym on Tuesday night.
The Raider girls used a full-court pressure defense to jump out to a 20-3 first quarter lead and kept pouring in the points enroute to a 63-34 win.
Jayda McNabb led Stevens (4-1) with 21 points and nine rebounds. Kaylee Whatley dropped in 12 points and snared eight boards for Sturgis (1-4).
The Stevens Raider boys shot seven of ten from the field in the first quarter to lead 15-4 after one. The Scoopers held tough through the second quarter and were still in the ball game, as Stevens led 25-14 at the halftime break.
The Scoopers could only manage two field goals in the third quarter as Stevens outscored Sturgis 35-17 in the second half to defeat the Scoopers, 60-31.
Rapid City Stevens (3-2) was led in scoring by Nate Kindred with 17 points. Dysen Petersen scored seven for Sturgis (0-5).
The Scoopers are off for the Christmas break until Dec. 30, when they host the Lead-Deadwood Golddiggers at West Gymnasium.
