STURGIS, S.D. – The Rapid City Stevens Raiders volleyball team spoiled Senior Night for the Sturgis Scoopers, blanking the Scoopers 25-20, 25-23, 25-20 to win the match three sets to none.
The Scoopers honored seniors Ysabela Gallosa, Samantha Shaw, TyLee Oswald, Tatum Lightenberg, Dylan Reman, Tacey Tieman, Dezmond Rhodes, Lexi Long, Hannah Aston, Olivia Schaefers and Joellen Cano. Sturgis came into the match at #16 in the seed point rankings in Class 11AA volleyball and needed a win to solidify their postseason chances.
Sturgis had a 19-14 lead in set one before the Raiders went on a tear, outscoring the Scoopers 11-1 to win the set 25-20.
Set two was back and forth, ending on a Carsyn Mettler kill to give Stevens the win, 25-23.
The Scoopers battled the Raiders in set three but couldn’t handle Grace Bybee’s devastating serves late and Rapid City Stevens took the set 25-20 and the match, three sets to none.
Cano had 13 assists and one kill for Sturgis (9-20), with Long adding 8 kills, one ace and one block. Stevens (14-15) was led by Mettler, who contributed 10 kills and five assists.
The Scoopers wrap up their regular season next Tuesday night at Rapid City Central. First serve is scheduled for 7pm.
