Storm brings heavy rain, hail to Sturgis

STURGIS, S.D. – A late season thunderstorm brought heavy rain, hail and lightning to Sturgis Monday afternoon.

The storm moved in around 4:00 p.m. with cloud to ground lightning.

Rain and hail drenched Sturgis, leading to widespread street flooding. Video shared on social media showed Sturgis’ Main Street looking like a river as rain and hail flowed down the street.

In Boulder Canyon, just outside Sturgis, traffic was stopped along the road as heavy rain and hail covered the road.

Reports of over an inch of rain were received, including a 1.09” report from the City of Sturgis Public Works at their facility downtown.
