STURGIS, S.D. – With the resignation of Mayor Wilkerson, Sturgis Council President Kevin Forrester will now be the lead constructer of the 2025 budget.
Last night was the scheduled first reading of the budget, but with the change of command, Forrester says he plans to start over and fully analyze the city’s financial situation.
Forrester says the budget work will be transparent to the public and he anticipates having to hold some special meetings to get it done before the end of the year.
He also says he wants to hear from all departments on their needs, but reminded everyone the city is financially cash strapped.
Forrester says this is not a one year solution, but plans a mutli-year committment to get Sturgis back financially stronger.
