Sturgis Ambulance celebrates EMS Week with open house

STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Ambulance Service celebrated the start of E.M.S. Week by holding an open house Monday.

The Sturgis Ambulance Service uses E.M.S. Week as an opportunity to educate the community on prevention and care of injuries and illnesses and assists with education on what to do until first responders arrive to an emergency.

Sturgis Ambulance Director Shawn Fischer says “the education and tools that are used during E.M.S. Week are used to help us apply for grants to finance equipment and classes for our providers.”

The Sturgis Ambulance Service is funded by an enterprising budget, so multiple fundraisers are done throughout the year, including E.M.S. Week events.

This year’s open house featured vendors, inflatables for the kids, and up close and personal tours of fire trucks, police cruisers and the Black Hills Life Flight helicopter.

Also on hand was Vitalant, holding a blood drive, and heart and vascular screenings.
