STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis will once again allow open containers in special event cups during this year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
2021 was the first year the city approved lifting the open container ordinance on a trial basis. It has been lifted during the rally ever since.
The City authorized the open container for wine and malt beverages if the drinks were contained in a special event cup and the open container is only allowed in the downtown corridor.
Sturgis Council Vice President Ruth Kopp says they adjusted the boundaries a little this year to help accommodate the Sturgis TT Race taking place on the last day of this year’s Rally.
Sales of the special event cups help the Sturgis Rally Charities Foundation and the Sturgis Rally Endowment Fund.
