Sturgis broadcaster, businessman, community booster Bob Davis passes away

STURGIS, S.D. – Legendary broadcaster and longtime Sturgis businessman Bob Davis has passed away.

He was 69.

Davis, who was also a leading community booster within the city of Sturgis, passed away Sunday afternoon at the Lippold Hospice Unit at Monument Health, Sturgis.

Bob Davis, who, on April 1, 1976, famously fooled his KBHB Radio audience that Bear Butte might be erupting in an April Fool’s joke for the ages, worked under owners Les and Margueritte Kleven for a decade.

After radio, Davis became a long-time business owner in Sturgis, as well as an architect of the recent Sturgis downtown Renaissance.

Davis had recently been diagnosed with bone cancer.

Services are pending and KBHB will keep you updated as information is made available.
