Sturgis Brown High School holds graduation ceremony Sunday

STURGIS, S.D. – At West Gymnasium at Sturgis Brown High School yesterday, a sea of mortarboards and black and maroon colors adorned the class of 2023 on their graduation day.

The class speakers were Jag Weyer and Landry Haugen and Senior Class President Zoey Holt delivered the class poem.

In her poem, Holt says she can’t believe how time had gone by so fast – touching on the memories made, the lessons learned. Holt’s poem:

“As I stand here and wonder, About how this time as one group has gone by in a blink.
Some things come to mind when I try to rethink:
The memories made from giggling and laughing
The lessons learned from studying and passing.
The late night football games, and endless cheers
To walking across this here stage in front of our peers
We’ve been through it all as friends and as family
From masks in the halls to college in the fall
We’ve always been known as “that class”
We know they’ll miss us as we know we’ve been quite a
blast.

I’ll never forget the memories made
As I wish we could watch them all on display.
As we all prepare to go our own separate ways
These memories will be with us all ways.
As I could stand up here and lie
Saying I won’t shed a tear as I watch my friends throw
their caps high,
But I will cheer on each and every one of you
Not knowing what you’ll pursue
As our lives as we know it are about to change and begin,
I cannot wait to see your dreams come true.
So as I stand here before my peers,
Class of 2023,
Thank you for the past 4 years.”

The motto for the Class of 2023 is “We didn’t realize we were making memories, we were only having fun,” – from Winnie the Pooh.

The ceremony for the 155 graduating seniors was held at 2:00 p.m.
