STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis Mayor Angela Wilkerson says they have received City Attorney Mark Marshall’s resignation.
The Sturgis Council met in special session earlier this month to request the resignation from Mr. Marshall.
The council had wanted to dismiss Marshall from his position, but Mayor Wilkerson told council members at that meeting they did not have the authority to do that.
Instead, the council requested Marshall to turn in his resignation by November first.
Mayor Wilkerson says Marshall turned his resignation Wednesday.

The council’s relationship with Mr. Marshall since the swearing in of new council members in May has been strained. There was a clear desire of some council members to move on from Marshall following several decisions he has made that they did not agree with.
There is no indication from the city of Sturgis as of yet as to how they will move forward with legal representation.
