STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis City Council members got their first look at the 2022 budget at special meeting held this week.
Sturgis City Manager Daniel Ainslie says the city is looking at a $23 million dollar budget – about $1.2-million more than 2021.
The city is receiving an additional $1.17 million dollars from the American Rescue Plan. The council voted Monday night to use some of that money for city road projects.
Ainslie says they would like to fix Moose Drive, East Main and East Sherman from Nellie Street east.
There was also good news with the budget in the fact Sturgis property taxpayers should see a decrease in their taxes.
Ainslie says the city received word from the Equalization Office that the taxable value of property within the city limits has increased nearly 14-percent of the past year.
He says that will allow the city to reduce the city’s portion of the property tax bill for individual property taxpayers.
The city has scheduled a presentation on the 2022 budget for Tuesday, July 6. First reading is scheduled to take place August 23.
