Sturgis City Leaders discuss possible creation of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Ordinance

STURGIS, S.D. – The city of Sturgis began discussions this week on the possible creation of a new City of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Ordinance.

City Manager Daniel Ainslie says the purpose of this proposed title is twofold.

Ainslie says first, it would consolidate all of the various portions of the City Ordinances into a singular title with an appropriate heading so that interested parties may more quickly identify Rally related regulations.

Secondly, Ainslie says it is meant to include new provisions that are customarily included each year through resolution.

Ainslie says the consolidation of various rally related regulations into one Rally chapter of city ordinances can be done statutorily by the City Attorney.

These revisions do not actually change any regulations; rather it is simply the resequencing of the regulations into a more logical presentation for the public.

City Attorney Mark Marshall will prepare a draft ordinance for a future council meeting to consider.
