STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Council Thursday night unanimously approved the appointment of Aaron Jordan as City Administrator.
The former Ward 3 councilor was chosen from 10 other candidates who applied for the position.
Mayor Kevin Forrester says Jordan was consistently favored among the council members as the preferred candidate.
“One individual emerged as the clear and consistent choice – Aaron Jordan,” Forrester said. Initially, a further round of interviews had been planned; however, the mayor decided an immediate appointment would best meet the city’s needs.
Forrester says he has full faith that Mr. Jordan will be able to accomplish positive things for the city in the first few months.
Jordan told the council he is excited to get to work.
Once the council approved his appointment, Jordan, along with new City Finance Officer Ann Bertolotto, were sworn in by Mayor Forrester.
The council also canvassed this week’s special election Thursday, in which two candidates will fill vacant seats in Ward 1 and Ward 3.
Only two votes separated the two candidates in Ward 1, where a recount is an option. Alex Usera defeated Ryan Klima 69 to 67.
Mark Chaplin, who has previously served on the council, was elected in Ward 3.
Usera and Chaplin will be sworn into office at the January 21st meeting.
