STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis City Council met for their second meeting in January Tuesday night.
The council passed two medical marijuana-related license applications. Both were submitted by the The Crop Shop on Whitewood Service Road. The two licenses deal with cultivation and manufacturing.
The Crop Shop is currently working on the rem-model of the building located in the general industrial zone.
The council also approved a final plat application for Habitat for Humanity, as well as Tax Increment District #26. The intent of the plat is to split the parcel in half to allow for the construction of two separate single family homes. Habitat for Humanity will use the $40,000 TIF for infrastructure to be placed on the property.
Sturgis Council President Kevin Forester says the TIF will help make the homes more affordable for the homeowners.
Forester says over time, the city of Sturgis has been a good partner with Habitat for Humanity in getting people into homes.
The council also passed first reading of an ordinance that renews the 10-year contract with the current cable franchises that serve the city. They are Midcontinent Communications and Bluepeak – formerly known as Vast Communications.
