STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Council Monday night approved Resolution 2023-40, which deals with the city’s first housing study since 2019.
The city partnered with Sturgis Economic Development Corporation then to complete the study.
With continued growth, the city is proposing to again partner with SEDC to apply for the grant to the South Dakota Housing Development Authority. Through the resolution, the city will commit to provide 50-percent of the local match for the project, which is estimated at $8,625, Therefore, total matching contributions from the City of Sturgis will be in the amount of $4,312 and funding from the SEDC of $4,313.
The grant will organize and arrange the housing consultant that conducts the analysis and study. The grant also pays 50-percent of total project cost.
The SEDC is the grant applicant and Mayor Mark Carstensen has signed the letter of support necessary for the grant.
