STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis City Council on Monday night approved second and final reading of the second Supplemental Appropriation of the 2022 Budget.
These are changes being made to the initial 2022 budget.
One of the changes deals with the purchase of the Richard’s Property, which is still under development.
Other additions include a new meeting management system and Councilor voice mail system. That system is an effort to enhance transparency and increase the ability of residents to communicate with Councilors. These new initiatives require the Mayor and Council budget to be increased by approximately $1.5-million with the vast majority of the cost being reimbursed through the eventual resale of the Richard’s Property.
Other changes to the budget include a correction to the Public Information Officer’s wages and benefits, changes to the City’s general liability insurance premium and addition of the recently announced project to replace all the city’s street banner poles. The final cost to that project will exceed what was originally budgeted from the first supplemental appropriation this year.
