Sturgis Council approves sending application for SRF program money for water upgrades

STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Council this week approved sending an application in hopes of getting money from the SRF program, which provides grants and loans for upgrades to the community’s water systems.

Alderman Aaron Jordan says they’re preparing for future growth.

Earlier this year, the City submitted a preliminary plan to the state’s DANR.

Jordan says the City now needs to finalize and approve the facility plan and adopt it during a public hearing. Afterwards, the plan is submitted to the state to request state funding.

Council President Kevin Forrester says there is still some discussion on prepayment packages for loans.

City staff says given the historic funding that is presently available, it is urgent for the City to adopt the plan and submit it to the state in order to receive any of this one- time infrastructure funding.
