Sturgis Council gives city attorney plan for medical marijuana license renewals

STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis City Council voted 4 to 2 with one abstention to have its city attorney reach out to those who have been granted a medical marijuana license in the city about renewal.

Last year, the city issued two conditional licenses.

Because the medical marijuana industry in the state is still relatively new, city attorney Mark Marshal was unsure how the city was going to handle license renewals.

After discussion, the council, on a 4-2 vote, decided to keep the renewal fee the same as the initial license fee at $7,500.

Marshall told the council he would personally reach out to the two licensees, and remind them the renewal application and fee will need to be in by December 31 or they risk the license being lost.
