STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis City Council approved an updated five year Capital Improvement Plan at their meeting Monday night.
The fund obtains revenue from the general sales tax on most goods and services purchased within the city.
The plan covers projects within the Capital Improvement Fund, the Sanitary Sewer Fund and Water Fund. It was reviewed and updated last in 2018 to reflect the next five years. However, with several significant projects completed, it is time to review the plan once again.
Sturgis City Manager Daniel Ainslie says the 2022 and 2023 projects included within the plan have been included within the current budget as well as the 2023 city budget recently adopted by the council.
He says as projects are completed and revenue is received, adjustments are made to the project priorities in order to ensure that actual revenue meets final construction costs. As new grant and other financing opportunities arise, some projects may be accelerated in order to ensure that the community receives the greatest improvements for their municipal tax dollars.
Ainslie says the plan will likely be updated again in 2025.
In other action Monday night, the council approved a medical marijuana manufacturing license for The Crop Shop L.L.C. The entity has already applied for and received a cultivation license. Issuance of that license is awaiting the required improvements and inspection to its location at 2951 Whitewood Service road.
The Crop Shop will also be required to pay a $7,500 licensing fee for the manufacturing license.
