STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis City Council met last night for their first November meeting, and on the agenda, a timeline for getting the 2025 budget done.
Sturgis Interim Mayor Kevin Forrester says the final development and approval of the City’s budget will follow a strict timeline with key benchmarks to ensure completion before the new year begins.
The process will include three special meetings of the council, along with weekly Legal and Finance Committee meetings to prepare for public discussions on each department’s budget.
The three meetings are scheduled for November 12, November 18 and November 25. First reading is scheduled for December 2 with second and final reading set for a special meeting on December 9.
Sturgis Communications Director Deb Holland says the various city departments will be given time at the meetings to deliver their budget requests.
In a related matter, the council also approved the accepted the 2023 audit report by the South Dakota Legislative Audit. Holland says the audit gives information on the finances of the city.
The council last night also approved the reinstatement of Administrative Team Members Rick Bush and Geody Vandewater. They resigned from the team under former Mayor Angela Wilkerson.
They will be reinstated at their former stipend to assist acting Mayor Kevin Forrester.
