Sturgis Council V.P. asks for special meeting

STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis Council Vice-President Ruth Kopp is leading an effort for a special meeting to take place as soon as this coming week.

Kopp presented Sturgis Mayor Angela Wilkerson a signed “notice of special meeting of the council” Monday night after she says a request to add four items to the agenda to be discussed didn’t happen.

Kopp told KBHB News that she has plenty of support for the special meeting – five other councilors signed on to her request.

The four items she and the other councilors want to discuss include Resolution 2024-32, which deals with the make-up of city government following the vote to abolish the city manager form of government.

The other three items listed were this year’s budget, council goals and the job description of a city administrator. The topic of a city administrator has been mentioned as a possibility, but not discussed, under the new form of city government.

Kopp says because their requests were not placed on this week’s agenda, the special meeting is being sought so the new council members can reconsider Resolution 2024-32 as well as discuss the three other topics.

Kopp says Tuesday morning, she emailed all of council, Finance Officer Adam Hosch, the mayor, and city attorney a copy of the signed notice and the proposed resolution.

The councilors are asking for a special meeting to be set for Thursday, May 30, at 5:30 p.m.
