STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Scooper Wrestling team opened up the 2021-2022 wrestling season by crowning two champions at the Mandan Lions Tournament Saturday.
Kelton Olson won the 132 pound championship and Reese Jacobs captured the 170 pound crown.
Three Scoopers came in second place, including Tegan Zebroski at 113, Maverick Simons at 138 and Zak Juelfs at 220.
Aiden Werlinger won his consolation match at 195 and captured third place for the Scoopers.
Also for Sturgis, Sophomore Preston Ray Sturgis placed 6th at 160 pounds and Thayne Elshere got sixth at 145.
Rapid City Stevens claimed the team title of the tournament with 368.5 points. Bismarck was second with 325 points and Pierre came in third with 321. Sturgis placed fourth in the team standings with 313.5.
Stevens crowned two champions with Jack Schoenhard at 120 and Logan Graf at 126.
