Sturgis, Fort Meade crews respond to fire south of Fort Meade

Smoke rises from a wildfire south of Fort Meade Friday afternoon.

STURGIS, S.D. — Sturgis and Fort Meade Fire crews were among those responding to a small wildfire Friday afternoon.

The fire was located near Barry Stadium on the back side of Fort Meade. It was contiguous with where a prescribed burn took place last week.

The fire, which was threatening some structures, was reported to be contained around 3:00 p.m. and had burned around 3 acres.

Thick smoke from the fire blanketed the Fort Meade area as crews worked to contain it.

No word on the cause of the fire.
