STURGIS, S.D. – Some area businesses are lending a helping hand to senior citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The elderly and those with weakened immune systems are the most vulnerable to the coronavirus, so some area grocery stores are setting up shopping times for senior citizens only.
Grocery Mart in Sturgis is one of those stores.
The store is setting aside their first hour of business, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. as a time for senior citizens to get their grocery shopping done.
And, managers are asking people to please be honest during this time.
Annika Meyer, Grocery Mart Manager, says, ‘We care about them and we want them to be healthy, so that is kind of how it started is you know we just want to take care of some of our regular customers.”
Grocery Mart has been working diligently to keep their shelves stocked with the things people need.
Dollar General stores around the area have also set aside early morning shopping for senior citizens.
