STURGIS, S.D. – The city of Sturgis ushered in the holiday season with the annual lighting of the community Christmas tree Thursday night.
The event began with Sturgis Mayor Mark Carstensen reading ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” to the children, who joined him on stage at Rally Point.

Following the mayor’s reading, the community Christmas Tree was lit.
After the tree lighting, Santa Claus arrived on stage, and children in attendance were able to tell him what they wanted for Christmas.
Organizations also set up booths around Rally Point at the corner of Main Street and Harley-Davidson Way with free candy canes, hot cocoa, cider, popcorn, and even roasted chestnuts.
