STURGIS, S.D. – Officials with the Sturgis Food Pantry say this year more than ever, they are asking for donations to their annual food drive scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28.
Gordon Kotab, President of the Sturgis Food Pantry Board and co-chair of the annual food drive, says the number of families utilizing the food pantry has increased and monetary donations have not kept up with the huge increase in food prices.
“Our expenses have been greater than our income in 2022 and again in 2023,” Kotab said.
On Saturday, Oct. 28, the Sturgis Kiwanis Food Pantry will conduct their annual food drive from 9 a.m. until noon. People can drop off food or monetary donations at one of four convenient locations.
They include the Grocery Mart parking lot, Lynn’s DakotaMart, Sturgis Elementary parking lot (across from the fire station) or at the Sturgis Kiwanis Food Pantry (801 6th Street) between the hours of 9 a.m. and noon. The food pantry will be open until 3 p.m.
Both grocery stores will again be offering food bags for purchase to donate to the food drive.
Kotab said the Kiwanis can’t thank the community of Sturgis enough for their amazing support for the annual food drive.
