Sturgis Main Street business damaged by early Sunday morning fire

STURGIS, S.D. – A Sturgis Main Street business was damaged by an early morning fire Sunday.

Sturgis Fire Chief Scott Lensegrav told KBHB Radio News crews were dispatched to Unique to Antique at 1132 Main Street at 2:55 Sunday morning.

When fire crews arrived, they were alerted to a person inside, and that person was rescued by firefighters and taken to the hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

The person had a living quarters in the back of the building, and Lensegrav says that is where the fire began. He says the fire marshal believes it was an unintentional, cooking fire.

The business received smoke and heat damage, with the heaviest of the damage occurring in the kitchen area near the back of the building.

A business next door to the east, Old Presidio Traders, was closed Sunday due to the fire, although a note on the door indicated they would reopen Monday.

Strain Mormon Law Firm is located to the west and it was not known if they received any damage.
