STURGIS, S.D. – Although South Dakota’s codified laws do not include specific laws that prohibit cell phone use by council members during meetings, Sturgis Mayor Angela Wilkerson informed council members Monday night she didn’t want them to be using them during meetings.
Wilkerson says she was made aware of council members getting messages during meetings and she worries about violating open meetings laws.
Council members balked at Wilkerson’s request, which asks council members to place their phones on the counter in front of them and not use them during council meetings.
