STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Park Board unanimously recommended the city of Sturgis move ahead with plans to build the Sturgis Lakeside Adventure Park.
The board made its recommendation during its Tuesday night meeting.
The Park Board’s recommendation is the latest step in a plan that began a couple years of ago when Sturgis formed an aquatics committee to study a possible water-type theme park for Sturgis.
The proposed park holds numerous opportunities for different ammenities as well as surrounding development on 77 acres of land the city purchased earlier this year on the south end of Sturgis.
Park Board member Allison Creed-Carter in her motion to approve says she would like to see some good business and residential development surrounding the park as well as the incorporation of recreational trails.
The proposed park now heads to the Sturgis Planning Committee, who is expected to take it up at their November 8th meeting.
If it passes through planning, it will head to the full council.
Discussion of the proposed park and TIF district that will help pay for it could be in front of the council by its November 21st meeting.
If adopted by the council, the next step would be to hire an architect to come up with a complete design.
