STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis Police and the Meade County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday released their third round of Rally stats.
Sturgis Police reported 10 D-U-I’s over the past 24 hours along with 15 misdemeanor drug violations. Totals in both categories for the year so far are up. Last year on this date there were 17 misdemeanor drug arrests – this year there are 23 so far. As for D-U-I’s, last year there were 11 on this date compared with 19 so far this year.
Illegal parking remains an annual problem for police. Law Enforcement reported 10 citations yesterday, sending the year-to-date total to 26. That is considerably down from last year’s 60 on day two.
From the Meade County Sheriff’s Office, they reported 123 calls for service in the latest report, along with 3 D-U-I arrests, 3 assault arrests and one sexual assault arrest. In total there were 50 people booked into the Meade County Jail.
From the city of Sturgis, there have been 714 temporary vending licenses issued so far. That compares to 757 at this time last year. Sturgis Public Works has reported 119.66 tons of garbage – an increase of 6.6% over last year. Sturgis Ambulance has responded to 38 calls for service.
