Sturgis Police respond to call of despondent individual

STURGIS – Sturgis Police and emergency personnel were called to an area on Lazelle Street in Sturgis along what locals refer to as the “S” curves at about 1:30 p.m. for a despondent individual.

The adult male was perched on a rocky ledge above Bear Butte Creek. Police were positioned both
above and below the individual and were able to persuade him to come away from the ledge at about
3:15 p.m.

No one was injured in the incident, said Sturgis Assistant Police Chief Brian Paulsen.

One lane of Lazelle Street was closed for emergency vehicles while the incident transpired.
