RAPID CITY, SD — Sturgis Post 33 won big over the Post 22 Expos 13-4 on Thursday morning in the opening game of the Veterans Classic Baseball Tournament.
In the first inning, the Post 33 Titans got their offense started when RJ Andrzejewski singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Sturgis tallied five runs in the second inning. The rally was led by a triple by Ridge Inhofer, a groundout by David Anderson, and a double by Thor Sundstrom.
Dustin Alan earned the victory on the mound for Sturgis Post 33. The pitcher allowed one hit and two runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking one. Owen Cass threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Eli Kelly took the loss for Post 22 Expos. The righty surrendered 12 runs on 12 hits over two and a third innings.
Post 33 saw the ball well, racking up 17 hits in the game. Cass, Alan, Anderson, Andrzejewski, Inhofer, Gage Murphey, Sundstrom, and Hunter Janzen each racked up multiple hits for Sturgis. Cass led the Titans with three hits.
