Sturgis Public Works replaces faulty water valve

STURGIS, S.D. – The city of Sturgis Public Works worked on installing a new water valve overnight at the intersection of Nellie Street and Sherman Street.

Public Works Director Rick Bush says that valve had aged to a point that it was no longer working correctly.

He says as crews were getting ready to install the new valve late Wednesday afternoon, they noticed the main lines all came together from four separate directions with multiple valves. He says this entire piece had to be replaced with new valving.

Crews were able to get the valving back together and installed and water was restored to the area around 12:45 a.m. Thursday morning. Crews backfilled and finished the job around 3:00 a.m.

Bush says it ended up being a difficult repair but they “pushed through and got it done.”
