STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis city officials say they have issued 769 temporary vending licenses in their Wednesday update. That is compared to 636 in 2019.
The Public Works Department has hauled nearly 52 tons of trash so far. By comparison, that is more trash than what is hauled from Times Square after a New Year’s Eve celebration.
Sturgis police continue to educate people about the open container rules. Alcohol must be in a special event cup and patrons must remain in the designated open container area downtown.
Police issued 158 open container violation warnings over the latest 24 hour report. To date, they have given out 1,377 warnings. Just one arrest has been made.
Ambulance has received 164 total calls for service since Monday, August 2. This number is up from the 123 in 2020 over the same time period.
And, according to the Department of Transportation, 60,626 vehicles entered Sturgis on Tuesday. That is up 15-percent from Tuesday of last year.
The total number of vehicles entering Sturgis from Friday, August 6 to Tuesday, August 10 is 313,363.
