STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis residents are allowed to ring in the new year with fireworks.
City ordinance will allow the use of personal fireworks on New Year’s Eve beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Residents may set them off until 1:00 a.m. New Year’s morning.
As is the case with the Fourth of July, fire officials warn about the dangers of setting off fireworks. Even though there is snow on the ground, they can still cause fires.
Residents are also encouraged to be courteous of other people and never throw lighted fireworks at cars, people or homes.
Residents are also encouraged to clean up their mess.
City officials tackled a hand full of complaints about the use of fireworks earlier this year.
