Sturgis releases Sunday Rally Update

STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis officials say call for service to the Sturgis Police Department are up 48 from the same period a year ago.

In their Sunday Rally Report, Sturgis Police Chief Geody Vandewater says calls went from 179 overnight Saturday to 254 overnight Sunday.

He says traffic looked to be up sharply on Sunday with vehicle and motorcycles jockeying for parking spaces in the downtown area.

An annual problem during the Rally, police have issued 37 parking citations so far, up six from last year.

Police have also reported 17 D.U.I. arrests, which is up over last year, and 38 misdemeanor and felony drug arrests; also up over last year.

Sturgis Communications Director Deb Holland says as of Sunday morning, they had issued 503 temporary vendor licenses, down from last year’s 538 on this day.

Total Ambulance calls from Monday, July 29 to Saturday, August 3, total 80 compared to 57 for the same time period in 2023.

And, in the garbage category, Monday before Rally through Saturday saw  119.66 Tons Hauled .
