RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Sturgis Titans won their first two games at the Veterans Classic baseball tournament on Thursday but stumbled a bit on day two, losing back-to-back games via the eight-run rule.
Cheyenne Post 6 crushed the Titans 16-1 in game one and Alliance, Neb. downed Sturgis by a score of 12-3 in their second loss of the day.
Cheyenne held the Titans to just one hit, an RBI single by David Anderson. Post 6 put up 10 runs in the second inning and scored six more runs in the third, including a three-run home run by Cheyenne slugger Zack Costopoulos. Ben Bohlmann got the win for Cheyenne, striking out six Titans and giving up one run and one hit.
Alliance started quickly and had a 7-0 lead before Post 33 scored three times in the top of the fourth. Alliance kept their foot on the gas pedal and finished off the Titans with five runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Ridge Inhofer led Sturgis at the plate with two hits. RJ Andrzejewski added one hit and two runs batted in.
Sturgis, 3-4, takes on Miles City Saturday at Pete Lien Memorial Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 pm.
