YANKTON, S.D. – The Sturgis Titans opened up tournament action in Yankton Friday, going 1-1 at the Lewis and Clark Classic.
Sturgis defeated Legion 2022, 18U by the score of 12-5 in their first game of the day.
David Anderson would not be denied at the plate, picking up four hits and leading Sturgis. Anderson singled in the first, doubled in the third, doubled in the fourth, and tripled in the seventh.
Sturgis Post 33 earned the victory despite allowing Legion 2022 18U to score four runs in the fourth inning.
Hunter Janzen led Post 33 to victory on the pitcher’s mound. The pitcher went five innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out four. Conner Cruickshank threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Ben Dumonceaux took the loss for Legion 2022 18U.
The Titans lost to Vermillion 8-0 in their second game.
Ben Burbach was credited with the victory for Vermillion, going five innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out one and walking one.
Sam Kooima took the loss for Sturgis Post 33. The right hander allowed three hits and six runs over four innings, striking out two.
David Anderson and Dustin Alan each managed one hit to lead Sturgis Post 33 Titans. Jack Kratz went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Vermillion in hits.
